The most in-demand tooth replacement option today, dental implants consist of just three parts. The implant itself is a durable screw-like device that we anchor in your jawbone to take the place of your natural tooth roots. Atop it we place a dental crown, which restores the appearance and function of your natural teeth. An abutment connects these two parts. Our practice uses high-quality implants from BioHorizons®, one of the top manufacturers in the industry.
What dental implants represent to you is a return to carefree smiles, meals, conversations, and laughter. Carefree days, truly. With a full set of teeth, you can feel fully confident. When those teeth are dental implants, you can count on up to a lifetime of reliable performance, with proper care. Whether you’re missing one or many teeth, we can help. We’ll improve your quality of life and protect your overall dental health with dental implants.
Now that you know what they are, the next question is, how do you get dental implants?
If you have even just one missing tooth, odds are you’re a candidate for dental implants in Torrington, CT. If not, you can become one after some preliminary treatments. During your initial free consultation, we’ll get to know your unique smile goals and assess your overall dental health with an exam. This includes high-definition 3D imaging of your upper and lower jaw with our in-office CT scan (CBCT). A revolutionary tool, the CBCT enables us to preplan implant placement with great precision using a fraction of the radiation of conventional equipment. We then send the CBCT data to one of the leading guided implant surgery companies if needed. They’ll develop a customized surgical guide that will simplify your placement procedure.
When you return for your procedure, our initial step is to make you comfortable. We can provide multiple forms of sedation, including nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”), oral sedation, and IV sedation, to keep you relaxed and free of pain throughout. The last two options provide the benefit of essentially allowing you to sleep through your surgery! You’ll feel nothing during it and won’t remember anything afterward! Not all practices offer this benefit.
Once you’re comfortable, we’ll extract any unhealthy teeth and also repair lost jawbone through bone grafting, if needed. Oral surgery is sometimes a prerequisite. We then anchor implants into your jawbone. If your missing or decayed teeth are located in different parts of your mouth, we’ll place one per tooth. If you have multiple missing adjacent teeth, we may use a bridge instead. This allows us to place fewer implants, making treatment faster and less invasive. Finally, our team will usually uncover the implant(s) 3-4 months after and begin the restorative process by placing a realistic-looking temporary crown or bridge. With this, you’ll be able to quickly resume normal daily activities while your jaw heals.
In the days following your procedure you may have some discomfort. Most patients find this manageable with medication. Healing can take several months, during which your implants will permanently integrate with your jawbone. Once you’re completely recovered, we’ll have you return to our office to begin your final restorative process. These are sturdy crowns and or bridges will seamlessly match the shade of your other healthy teeth. We also offer high-quality, durable Prettau® Zirconia bridges, which look just like natural teeth. You’ll emerge from this visit with a happy, harmonious smile, ready to enjoy life to the fullest again!
Most of our patients aren’t prepared to pay for dental implants outright. We fully understand this. At the same time, we really want to help you reclaim your smile. That’s why we work with third-party financing companies including Proceed Finance, CareCredit®, Greensky and LendingClub to offer you flexible payment options. We’ll also file claims with your dental insurance provider on your behalf. Our team will help you get the maximum benefits your plan allows. Schedule a visit so that we can discuss implant pricing and our financing options. Don’t put off a restored set of teeth and a satisfying life any longer.
